Knitted Hat






SIZE: One size; to fit an average adult head
Finished Measurements: 23" circumference at base, stretched

MATERIALS:
-         Lopi Reynolds 100 % wool bulky weight yarn color 008 pale blue heather 110 yds ( 100 m) / 100 g - 1 skein, or
-         1 skein Malabrigo Worsted Merino [100% Merino; 210 yds per
100g skein];
-         1 set U.S. size 7 (4.5 mm) double pointed needles ;
-         1 U.S. size 4 (3.5 mm) double pointed needles;
-         1 cable needle;
-         1 stitch marker;
-         tapestry needle.


Gauge: 18 sts/30 rows = 4 inches in stockinette st on size 7 needles.

SPECIAL TERMS:
-         m1: Insert LH needle under horizontal strand between st just worked and next st, from the front to the back, knt through the back loop (1 st increased)
-         k2tog: Knit 2 sts together (1 st decreased) ssk: Slip 2 sts, 1 at a time, knitwise to the RH needle; return sts to LH needle in turned position and knit them together through the back loops (1 st decreased)
-         sk2p: Slip 1 st knitwise from the LH needle to the RH needle, k2tog, pass slipped st over knit st created by k2tog (2 sts decreased)
-         C6F - Cable six front. Slip three stitches from left needle onto cable needle or dp needle. Move cable needle to front of work. Knit next three stitches from left needle. Then knit the three stitches off the cable needle.
-         C6B - Cable six back. Slip three stitches from left needle onto cable needle or dp needle. Move cable needle to back of work. Knit next three stitches from left needle. Then knit the three stitches off the cable needle.

-     PM - Place marker.

PATTERN STITCHES:
With smaller circular needle, CO 82.. sts. Join to beg working in-the-rnd, being careful not to twist sts. Place marker for beg-of-rnd.
Begin 1 x 1 Rib (multiple of 2 sts); work even until pc meas 2⁄3".
Next row: *k4, M1*, repeat between * around.

 Pattern 

Change to larger needle.
Next row: knit.
Row 1 (RS). K1. *P1. Slip next 4 sts onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. K4, then K4 from cable needle – C8F made. Slip next 4 sts onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. K4, then K4 from cable needle – C8B made. Rep from * to last st. K1.
Row 2: P1. (P16. K1) 5 times. P1.
Row 3K1. (P1. K16) 5 times. K1.
Rows 4-9: As 2nd and 3rd rows 3 times more.
Row 10: P1. (P15. P2tog) 5 times. P1. 82 sts.
Row 11: K5. (C8F. C8B) 4 times. C8F. K5.
Rows 12 alt rows: Purl.
Rows 13, 15, 17 and 19: Knit.
Row 21: K1. (C8F. C8B) 5 times. K1.
Work 3 rows in stocking st.
Shape top: 
Row 1: (RS). (K3. K2tog) 16 times. K2. 
Row  2 and alt rows: Purl.
Row 3: (K2. K2tog) 16 times. K2. 50 sts.
Row 5: (K1. K2tog) 16 times. K2. 34 sts.
Row 7: (K2tog) 17 times. 17 sts. 
Break yarn, leaving a long end, draw through all sts tightly. Fasten securely. 
Sew back seam.
Bind off
